In memoriam

Private Herbert Heaton, of the Suffolk Regiment, Son of Charles Heaton and Elizabeth Wild, died from pneumonia at Salonica on December 23rd, 1918, aged 24. He enlisted on September 7th, 1914, and went to Egypt in the early part of January, 1915, and from there to Salonica. He remained there till August 9th, 1918, and came home on leave when he commenced to be ill with malaria. He was discharged from hospital on October 18th, and then went back to Salonica. In civil life he was employed as a joiner-minder at the Dane Mills, and was connected with New Jerusalem School. His home address was 73, Higher Kay Street, Middleton..
