Luftwaffe. 10th April 1941. Stab JG27. Messerschmitt Bf109E (4891). Kurier flight. Crashed in bad weather near Oreshe, 8 km west of Bogomila, Yugoslavia. Oblt. Herbert Mardaas (FF, T.O) killed. Aircraft a write-off. Born at Sprendlingen. Ancestry say Herbert Mardaas was originally buried in a Feldgrab near Oreshe, 8 km w.n.w of Bogomila, before being re-buried at the "Heldenfriedhof Skoplje (Üsküb). The VDK say "Herbert Mardaas is recorded by name at the Prilep war cemetery, which was prepared by the Volksbund. Further information about his grave location can be obtained from the Service Department".
