5489 Private James Cassidy Connaught Rangers 5th Battalion aged 28 Son of John Cassidy, Edgeworthstown Birth. James Cassidy, son of John Cassidy and Elizabeth Cassidy, formerly Reilly, was born on 29 March 1885, at Edgeworthstown, Co. Longford. His father was a Labourer. His parents were still alive in 1911, living at Garryandrew, Edgeworthstown John was aged 74, Elizabeth was aged 68. They had been married 40 years and had 5 children, all still alive James was not recorded with them in the 1901 or 1911 census. In The Longford Leader, edition of Saturday 1 May 1915 under the heading of Edgeworthstown Notes Recruits Edgeworthstown, James Cassidy, Garryandrew (Special Guard M.G.W.R.) He was an employee of the Midland and Great Western Railway Company. His name is included on the Midland and Great Western Railway Company War Memorial at Broadstone Station, Dublin. His name is listed in the Traffic Department section
