In memoriam

Rank: Second Lieutenant Regiment: Royal Scots Fusiliers Secondary Regiment: attached 1st Battalion Royal Scots Died: Between 30th September 1916 and 1st October 1916 Age: 21 years old   James was born in Dundee on the 8th April 1895. He was the son of James Mudie. His father was the Caretaker of the School Board Offices in Dundee.   James was educated at the Morgan Academy and University College Dundee. While at College he gained the medal for English literature, while he also took a high position in his other classes. From 1913 to 1915 he was studying to be a teacher at St Andrews University. Whilst there, he was a member of the Officer Training Corps. He was in his last year of taking a Masters Degree when he enlisted in the Army. James joined the Royal Scots Fusiliers and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. He saw fighting on two fronts in the East.   James was noted as having a cheery disposition and was well liked. Sadly, he was killed in action in the Struma Valley, Macedonia between the 30th September and the 1st October 1916. He was 21 years old.   He was buried in Struma Military Cemetery. James is also commemorated in the following locations: St Andrew's University Officer Training Corps Roll of Honour.
