FLIGHT LIEUTENANT J BRYAN PILOT ROYAL AIR FORCE 5TH SEPTEMBER 1942 AGE 21 † OUR LOVE AND REMEMBERANCE WILL LAST

Service No. 63479 - Sometimes recorded as Jeffery Bryan. Elder son of Charles Stanley Bryan and Jessie (nee Shepherd) who were married in the Ampthill registration district in 1919. He was the brother of Shirley and Tony. Jeffrey attended Bedford School from 1934 to 1937. Before the war he was an articled clerk to a chartered accountant and was living at 100 Chaucer Road, Bedford. He married Rita Edmondson at St. Martin's Church, Bedford on 13 May 1942. Their marriage was tragically short, as he was shot down in a Halifax II, by a combination of flak and Bf109s over the target during a raid on Heraklion airfield. Four of the crew survived and were captured.
