17601 Private John Casey. The Royal Irish Fusiliers. 5th Battalion. At present his exact identity and parents are unknown, but he is probably John Casey recorded in the 1911 census living at Kilgobbin, Co. Dublin. He was 16 years old, an Assistant Farrier, living with his cousins Edward, Michael and Mary Deering. He was stated to have been born in Co. Dublin. Edward and Michael Deering were also recorded as Farriers, and had been noted in the 1901 census as Blacksmiths. The Deerings were children of James Deering and Anne Reilly Deering, both of whom appear to have been deceased before 1901. John Casey's name is recorded on Kilgobbin War Memorial , Stepaside, Co. Dublin.
