Matija Rant

In memoriam

Matija Rant was a teacher and fruitgrowing expert. He was born 21 Feb. 1844 in Martinj Vrh (13 km WNW of Škofja Loka) and died on 6 Feb. 1917 in Dobrovo. He attended school in his home parish and Idrija. He served as an assistant instructor in Dobrepolje (1861-64), Bled (1864–65), and Gorje (1865–66), and then as a regular teacher in Gorje (1866–71), Trnovo pri Ilirski Bistrici (1871–73), Šturje (1873–8), Prem (1878–85) and Dobrova(1885–1905). He works include the illustrated volume "Opis najnavadnejših sadjereji škodljivih mrèesov" (Description of the Most Common Harmful Pests for Fruitgrowers; Ljubljana, 1883). He received numerous awards and recognitions for his work as a fruitgrowing expert. (Source: Slovenski biografski leksikon)
