3902 Pvt. Matthew Mathews, 6Bn. The Leinster Regiment Husband of Catherine Matthews, of 15, Greenhills, Drogheda, Co. Louth. m.1908 Possibly son of John Matthews and Anne Garvey of Blackbull, Drogheda. Enlisted Wigan, Lancashire. Died of Wounds, Salonica. 1901 Census: Matthew is 21 YO and is living with an aunt and uncle at Newtown in Drogheda, where he is employed as a railway plate layer. 1911 Census has Matthew and Katherine living at 9 Baldwin St. Wigan. He is employed there as a blast furnace man at the local ironworks.
