"Mama" (Mother)

Notes from Polona Trontelj: These people are not related to the Trontelj family. My grandmother from my mother’s side inherited the estate and grave from the Podržaj family. Alojzija Podržaj was the last one of her immediate family. Neither she nor her brothers and sisters married. My grandmother and Alojzija were neighbors. When Alojzija got old and sick my grandmother took care of her. As a result Alojzija gave my grandmother her land. When Alojzija died my grandmother arranged the funeral and cared for the grave of Podržaj family. One day my grandmother gave the Podržaj estate to my mother which included the Podržaj grave. When Matej [Polona’s brother Matej Trontelj] died we put a new monument with the Trontelj name. We transcribed the words from the original Podržaj monument and put it on a memory plaque, so that the Podržaj family would be remembered. I remember Alojzija when I was a child; she was always happy to see us and she often gave us some money for a candy.
