13459 Company Serjeant Major (CSM) Reuben Wise, Died of Wounds recived in action, on the 30th.November 1917, while serving with the 7th.Battalion, The Royal Berkshire Regiment. Husband of Grace Emma Wise of 150, Wall St., Hackney. After a short spell in France in 1915, the 7th.Btn. were posted to Salonika and departed from Marseilles on the 11th November 1915 on the MT Arcadian. They reached Alexandria on the 18th and Salonika on the 24th. At the end of the year the battalion were in trenches at Yailajik. Throughout 1916-17-18, the 7th.Btn. fought in various actions including the battle of Horseshoe Hill (10-8-1916) and the battle of Dojran (24-4-1917). In the 1901 Census, Reuben (15) occupation 'Factory Hand in Wallpaper Factory', was living at 20, Tredegar Road, Bow or Stratford-Le-Bow, Poplar, London with his mother Lucy (50) 'Monthly Nurse', brother Arthur (19) 'Printer Compositor) and sister Lucy M. (12). By 1911, Reben (25), occupation 'Shop Assistanf in Wallpaper Factory' was living with his brother, Arthur Robert (28) 'Composotor Printer' at 14 Strahan Road Bow, Mile End Old Town, London. In the 2nd.Qtr. of 1915, Reuben married Grace Emma Jackson (b.9-1-1897) Mother Lucy died, aged 73 and her death is registered in the 1st.Qtr. of 1923.
