In memoriam
13729 Private Walter Carden, Died of Wounds received in action on the 9th.January 1917 at the 31st.Casualty Clearing Station, Salonika, while serving with the 7th.Battalion, The Royal Berkshire Regiment. Son of George & Grace Carden of 88 New Church St., S.E.Bermondsey, London. In the 1911 Census Walter (20) was employed as a Labourer and living with his family at New Church St., His father (45) was also employed as a 'Labourer', mother Grace was 41. Walter had six siblings, older brother George (21) also a 'Labourer', Grace (16) 'worked in a 'Tin Factory', while twins William & Charles (11) were at school. Mary was 4 and Alice was 2. Walter was originally buried in Janes Military Cemetery, a few miles to the north of Sarigol, exhumed and reburied in Sarigol Cemetery sometime during 1921-22.
