the 88-year-old widow of a prominent Sarajevo businessman, had died of natural causes at her apartment on the edge of Bascarsija, in the city's old Muslim quarter. Because she was unable to walk, a man said, Mrs. Milanovic had been forced to remain alone on a makeshift bed in the corridor next to her upper-floor apartment when others in her building had fled the Serbian shellfire for the safety of the basement.
