🔍 MăreșteIn memoriam
Myftar Jegeni was born in Dibër in 1915. He headed the Military Academy in 1937 in Italy. With the rank of captain on April 7, 1939, he fought in Durrës for the defense of the homeland, then also against the German army. He opposed the massacres of the Yugoslavs against the Kosovars. After he was arrested, he was sent to the hands of the communists in Albania. After the breakdown of relations with Yugoslavia, he worked as an accountant in a construction company in Tirana. On February 19, 1951, an explosion occurred in the Embassy of the former Soviet Union in Tirana, an event known as the "Bomb in the Soviet Embassy". No one was injured in the attack, but the Albanian authorities of that time considered a group of 22 young intellectuals who were working in Tirana at the time, including Myftar Jegen, to be guilty. Despite the lack of any evidence of guilt, he was arrested and sentenced to death. The sentence was executed on the night of February 26-27, 1951 near the village of Mënik, a few kilometers west of Tirana. The bodies were buried in a shallow grave in the field behind. (Kujto.al)
