Nafsika G. Pantalopoulou

Nafsika was a schoolteacher in Kontovazaina and a cousin of the Vlahoulis family. Her surname is written as Pantalopoulou on the gravestone, but I have seen her name written as Pantazopoulou as well. Family stories say that Nafsika cared deeply about a fellow male teacher, who spoke out against the Communist Party during the troubled Civil War time period in Greece. The male teacher was taken, tortured, and killed by the Communist guerillas. They ordered that his body be left out in the open. Nafsika went by herself and buried him. She "signed her own death warrant" by doing so. From information found on the internet, I have found that the name of the man Nafsika "christianly" buried was George Flouda and that he was killed in October of 1943. He is described as an "agent of the Allied Mission". He was taken by the Communists guerillas who operated from a large camp located in a schoolhouse in Vachlia. His body was later brought to Kontovazaina and ordered to be left unburied.
