Private Simpson, aged 37, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 24 May 1941. He was the son of Robert and Isabella Simpson, of Gourock, Renfrewshire, Scotland. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face 12.
