10th President of Serbia. He served from May 5, 1982 to May 5, 1984 as the President of Serbia. Prior to becoming president, he fought in World War II alongside Josip Broz Tito for the Yugoslav partisan movement and was proclaimed a Yugoslav national hero. A member of the military, he retired as a four star general in 1982. He served as Minister of Defense of Yugoslavia from 1967 to 1982. From 1984 to 1989, he was a member of the Presidency of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. He is best remembered as a participant in the People's Liberation Struggle, his distinguished military career and hero of socialist labor and national hero of Yugoslavia. He had a full military funeral.
