In memoriam
Prime Minister of Greece. He was a member of Greece's People's Party in the period before World War II. He served as prime minister from November 4, 1932 to June 9, 1935. Prior to becoming prime minister, he studied law in Athens, Berlin, and Paris. He returned to Greece and worked as a lawyer. He entered politics in 1910 and was elected to parliament where he remained a member until his death. In 1915 he became minister of justice. With the exile of the king in 1917, he was exiled until 1920 when the People's Party won the elections. He became minister of interior and later, minister of public transport. In 1922 he was elected leader of his party. He then became prime minister. Despite the political turbulence during his administration, his moderation as a royalist and right-wing politician was admirable. He is best remembered for signing a quadripartite pact with Turkey, Romania and Yugoslavia as well as a separate agreement with Turkey, guaranteeing the common borders of the two countries.
