In memoriam

Πάνος Κολοκοτρώνης Son of Theodoros Kolokotronis/Θεόδωρος Κολοκοτρώνης and his mistress/partner Margarita Vellisari/Μαργαρίτα Βελισσάρη (believed to have died in Athens c. 1870); born out of wedlock; named after his murdered half-brother Panos, (1800 – 1824). He was not accepted as equal by his siblings, even though his father recognised him and provided for him equally in his will. He served as an artillery officer in the Greek Army. He was aide-de-camp to King George I of the Hellenes. From 1881-1885 he was commandant of the Greek Military Academy (Σχολή Ευελπίδων). According to his headstone, he was a colonel of artillery, but Wikipedia (renowned for its accuracy!) states that he died as a serving general.
