Son of Pericles. He was named for the flagship of the Athenian navy. He and his older brother Xanthippus were apparently of inferior capacity and poorer character compared to their father; indeed, they both came to be called "cabbage-suckers." Paralus and Xanthippus both died in the Plague of Athens in 429 BC. Pericles, beset by grief, succumbed to the Plague himself soon afterwards.
