In memoriam
Prime Minister of Yugoslavia. A member of Yugoslavia's Radical Peasants' Democracy and National Party he served as prime minister from 7 January 1929 to 4 April 1932. Prior to becoming prime minister he completed his secondary education in Zajecar and the Military Academy in Belgrade. He joined the army and in 1921 and King Alexander I of Yugoslavia appointed him commander of the Royal Guard. Rising to the rank of general, the king made him prime minister in 1929. He is best remembered for his help in the 1903 coup and overthrow of the Obrenović dynasty. After the signing of the Tripartite Pact in 1941, he left the country ahead of the Nazi invasion. He became part of the Yugoslav government in exile. He was tried by the Communist government of Yugoslavia and sentenced to death. In exile, he eventually ended up in France where he died.
