Description WA. Paybook photograph of WX818 Private Philip Geoffrey Hammond, 2/11th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Hammond, aged 31, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 28 May 1941. He was the son of Herbert Alexander and Phoebe Ellen Hammond, of Fremantle, WA. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face12. He is commemorated on the Roll of Honour in Fremantle WA, also his name is located at panel 35 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
