In memoriam

In music, there is a series of recordings called ‘minus one'. This permits a soloist to practice with the accompaniment of the symphony orchestra in full voice. I thought the ‘minus one' metaphor a rather perfect description of life. Surely, the rejoicing does go on even ‘minus one'.
