THOUGH LOST TO SIGHT, TO MEMORY DEAR. HE LIVES IN THE LIVES OF THOSE HE LOVED

Marine Samuel Saunders died during an air attack on Vis, their base of operations against enemy held Dalmatian Islands. The 43RM Cdo. War Diary entry for 28th March 1944 states " Enemy aircraft attacked Vis town , and bombs also fell in Podselje . A direct hit was scored on the Cdo Orderly room resulting in the death of Ty Lt. F.H. Hancock and two marines." Aged 19 years Rank: Marine Unit/Base: 43RM Commando Regiment/Corps: Royal Marines Service: United Kingdom Royal Navy Service Number: CH/X 109090 Country of Service: United Kingdom Son of Albert Edward and Elizabeth Saunders, of Barking, Essex.
