In memoriam

Šemso Baručija was born on May 4, 1960 in Foča. He was an active military person. He received the "Golden Lily" war award in 1994 as a member of the 1st Corps Command. Šemso died on October 11, 1994, on Moševačko brdo - Vareš, in the rank of captain, on the job of officer for planning and training of engineering units. On October 11, 1994, Captain Šemso Baručija, a great patriot, winner of the highest war award, the Golden Lily, died on Čemerska planina, the place where the decisive battles for this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina were fought. He was buried on October 16, in the harem of the Ali Pasha Mosque in Sarajevo, in the presence of numerous comrades, friends and relatives. At the beginning of the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Šemso, as an officer of the former JNA, organized resistance in the area of the Boljakovo potok where he happened to be at the time. After the battle for the defense of Žuć, in which he distinguished himself, he received the highest war award. Soon after, he transferred to the joint detachment Zlatni ljiljani, and later with the formation of the 7th Mountain Brigade, i.e. the 9th Motorized Brigade, today's 105th Motorized Brigade, he performed the duties of planning and training officer for pioneer-engineer units. Šemso is a man for whom one should only express admiration, says H.A, his partner in the fight and a great friend, and his opinion is shared by all the members of the Engineering Battalion of the 105th Motorized Brigade, who say that Šemso is most deserving of the formation of this unit and its declaration as the best of this genus in the First Corps . He was one of the few experts in pyrotechnics for the removal of aircraft cluster bombs. He single-handedly removed over 600 unexploded bodies (from trombones to 155 mm howitzer projectiles) from the defense lines and the wider area of the city. He worked on the creation and strengthening of engineering units, both in Sarajevo and in the area of central Bosnia. He wasn't afraid. He spent hours and days working on or in front of the front line. I think we have lost an inimitable man in this kind of army. At the end of 1993, Šemso moved to a higher and more responsible position in the Command of the First Corps. Even though he was seriously ill, he constantly went to fields outside the city, wherever he was needed. He felt a sense of responsibility towards work, perhaps more than others. He often dreamed of returning to his native Foča. He spoke proudly about the fighters from his region.
