In memoriam

Lance Corporal Sidney Apter was an English soldier of the British Army who died during the First World War. He was born in 1897, in Birmingham, the son of Polish-born pawnbroker Bernard and Amelia Apter (née Marks), of Birmingham. At the time of the 1911 Census, Apter was living with his uncle and aunt at 43 Clevedon Road. Aged 20, Apter died on 10 April 1917 while serving on the Salonika Front with the 8th (Service) Battalion (Pioneers), The Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. He formerly belonged to the Royal Fusiliers.
