Northumberland Fusiliers.... 21399 Private S. G. Buxton

Sidney was a casualty of WW1. He enlisted in York, initially serving as a Private in the West Yorkshire Regiment (Service Number: 18866), before being transferred to 2nd Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers (Service Number: 21399). He is remembered on The Doiran Memorial to the British Salonika Force, which includes the names of around 2,000 men serving with it who have no known grave. His father was James Lakey Buxton and his mother was Sarah Ann Buxton (nee Rudd), both from Norfolk. He had 6 brothers: Hugh Thomas 1897 - 1918 (WW1 service - Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, Service Number: 43881, who was also a WW1 fatality) Robert William 1887 - 1974 (WW1 service - Norfolk Regiment, Service Number: 7584) Ernest Henry 1892 - 1954 (WW1 service - Norfolk Regiment, Service Number: 17305, who was badly wounded, but survived WW1) Arthur Edward 1895 - 1961 (WW1 service - Norfolk Regiment, Service Number: 43116, who was discharged as physically unfit due to war nephritis) Alan James 1907 - 1991 Stanley Charles 1905 -1982 He is also remembered on Castle Acre War Memorial, Castle Acre, nr Swaffham, Norfolk.
