Military Figure. He was a general of the Turkish army, a Bosnian military leader, and one of the administrators in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the Ottoman administration. Smail-aga is the main character in the book "The Death of Smail-aga Čengić" written by the Croatian writer Ivan Mažuranić. One of the most famous military successes of Smail-aga Čengić is the victory in the Battle of Grahov in which the army under the command of Smail-age defeated the Montenegrins. Smail - aga was one of the main actors in the collapse of the uprising of Husein - captain Gradaščević, in which he made a great success with his army. Smail - aga Čengić was killed in 1840 by Montenegrins near the town of Nikšić and was buried in a target in the village of Lipnik in Gacko. Smail - aga's son Derviš (Dedaga) Čengić later avenged his father's death and defeated the Montenegrins.
