In memoriam
Sorin N. Samanta, age 51 of Rochester, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, at Rochester Methodist Hospital. Sorin Nicu Samanta was born June 8, 1959, in Romania, to Alex and Elizabeth (Virdau) Saminta. He married Luciana Velciu in Los Angeles, Calif., on Feb. 14, 1998. They moved to Rochester in 2000, and he started working at IBM. Sorin was an avid golfer and bridge player. He is survived by his wife, Luciana Velciu; his mother, Elizabeth Saminta of Los Angeles; brother, Mike (Adriana) Samanta of Seattle, Wash., and their children, Alex of Fargo, N.D., and Andrew of Minneapolis; his cousin, Florina Virdau of Seattle; his God-children, Ligia and Horatiu; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Valeriu and Mariana of Bucharest, and their children, Anca, Vlad and Victor. He was preceded in death by his father, Alex Saminta. There will be a funeral service on Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes. Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m
