In memoriam

The actor Stelios Vokovits born in Istanbul in 1912. He studied at the Drama School of the National Theatre, where he served, with few pauses, as in 1982. He starred in hundreds of works of ancient, European and American theater. He excelled in roles tragic as messenger, where he created "school", but after 1970 he excelled in comedies of Aristophanes (Horsemen, Clouds). He played almost all Shakespearean tragedies that went to the National Theatre (Tempest, Richard III, Merchant of Venice), in works of Bernard Shaw, the Ntyranmat of Myse, of O'Neil In 1966 he was appointed director of the Drama School of the National Theatre. In 1982 he left the National Theatre and worked in private troupes in Orton works Lorca (Dona Rosita) and Goldsmith (The mistakes of a night). He died in 1990. Brother was also the actor Nikos Vokas (1917).
