Stephen F. Lackovic

In memoriam

Rev. Msgr. Stephen F. Lackovic, DD, 94, was the son of Franciska and Janko Lackovic. He was a graduate of the Seminary Germanicum College in Rome, Italy and studied philosophy and theology at the Papal Gregorian University, Rome. He was ordained a priest in 1939 and served as the private secretary to Cardinal Aloysius Stepinac in Zagreb. Msgr. Lackovic came to the United States in 1946, at first serving at parishes in Youngstown, Ohio, and Gary, Indiana. Moving to the Diocese of Buffalo, he served as administrator of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Lackawanna from 1949 to 1976. This church later moved to another site in Lackawanna and became known as Our Lady of Bistrica Croatian Roman Catholic Church. Msgr. Lackovic continued to serve until 1981. After retirement, Msgr. Lakovic returned to his native Croatia.
