In memoriam

Suad Ćupina was born on November 11, 1951 in Mostar. He started practicing karate in 1968. In that sport, he achieved almost everything that was possible - from the title of karate master on the eighth day, to winning medals as a competitor and as a coach, as well as a large number of scientific titles in the field of sports. In his rich coaching career, he achieved top results, especially as a long-term selector of the BiH karate team, but also as a coach in the University Karate Club Bosna from Sarajevo. His karate players were the holders of numerous medals from world and European championships, as well as other international and domestic competitions. Ćupina started building his name as a coach back in the former Yugoslavia. In the period from 1986 to 1992, he served as the selector of the cadet, junior and women's selection in combat. He was a doctor of science in the field of sports since 2010. He is the winner of the highest war award - "Golden Lily". He was a member of the Patriotic League of Mostar Municipality since April 1991. The war found him in the post of commander of the Militia War Station, CSB Mostar. He joined TO on April 8, 1992. He held the position of Battalion Commander, and a number of positions in the 4th Corps of the RBiH Army. He participated in the liberation and defense of Mostar. For his courage, ability and personal contribution in organizing and leading armed resistance to the aggressor of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in 1993 he was awarded the highest war award, the "Golden Lily" award.
