Sulejman ef. Šarac

Hfz. Sulejman ef. Šarac - Bosniak theologian, the third in order of reis-ul-ulema in the Austro-Hungarian period. He actively participated in the movement for religious and religious-educational autonomy of Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina, for which Austria-Hungary resented him severely and the then Land Government in Bosnia and Herzegovina transferred him to the Supreme Sharia Court. However, his reputation and popularity grew rapidly, and after the victory for religious and religious-educational autonomy, he was unanimously elected as reisu-l-ulema. That's right hfz. Suleiman ef. Sarac was the first reis-ul-ulema of Bosnia and Herzegovina elected by the people. His election was not to the liking of Austria-Hungary, which, after two years of work, will force him to resign through the same Hodžin curia that unanimously elected him two years ago. After the ultimatum of the National Government in Bosnia and Herzegovina to resign within eight days, reis-ul-ulema hfz. Suleiman ef. Šarac resigned from the position of reis-ul-ulema in August 1912. Sulejman ef. Šarac died on December 27, 1927 in Sarajevo and was buried at Grlića brdo cemetery in Sarajevo.
