Sulejman Tihić

Bosnia and Herzegovina President, Politician, and Author. Tihić was the president of the Democratic Action Party (SDA) - a leading political party in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He completed his studies at the Faculty of Law in Sarajevo. Between 1975 and 1983, he worked as a judge and public prosecutor in Bosanski Šamac, later transitioning to a career as a lawyer until 1992. A member of the Democratic Action Party since its inception in 1990, he held various positions within the party, including president of the Bosanski Šamac Municipal Board and member of the Main Board. From May to August 1992, he endured imprisonment in Serbian concentration camps across several locations. From 1994 to 1996, he served as the head of the Consular Department at the Embassy of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Federal Republic of Germany. Following this, from 1996 to 1999, he worked as a minister-advisor in the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Additionally, he served as a deputy in the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska from 1996 to 2000 and later as vice president of the National Assembly from 2000 to 2002. He was appointed as a member of the Commission of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska for constitutional issues in 2001. At the third Congress of the Party of Democratic Action in October 2001, he was elected as its president. He continued to hold this position, being re-elected in May 2005 and May 2009 for subsequent mandate periods. In the 2002 general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he was elected as a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, representing the Bosniak people. He served as Chairman of the House of Peoples of the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was married and had two sons and a daughter. Tihić passed away on September 25, 2014, after battling a prolonged and severe illness and was buried in the cemetery of the White Mosque in Bosanski Šamac.
