Tefik Shehu

Tefik Shehu , born in Gjakovë in 1912. Graduated from Zagreb in Economics, Finance and Law. In 1939, he settled and worked in Tirana. After the invasion of Albania, he returned to Gjakovë. There he was arrested by the Serbs, but managed to escape with the help of the Albanian nationalists. In 1945, he was arrested by the Albanian communists in Tirana, but with the help of the lawyer Koço Dilo , he escaped being shot. On February 19, 1951, an explosion occurred at the Embassy of the former Soviet Union in Tirana, an event known as the "Bomb at the Soviet Embassy". No one was injured in the attack, but the Albanian authorities of that time considered a group of 22 young intellectuals who were working in Tirana at the time to be the culprits, including 39-year-old Tefik Shehu .. Despite the lack of any evidence of guilt, he was arrested and sentenced to death. The sentence was executed on the night of February 26-27, 1951 near the village of Mënik, a few kilometers west of Tirana. The bodies were buried in a shallow grave in the field behind. (Kujto.al)
