Valeria Ciobanca (née Cighi) was born to Floare Lapos (1888-1952) and Dumitru Cighi (1879-1961) in Bocsa, Salaj, Romania, on July 10th, 1922. The family was Greek Catholic; she had three sisters (Marioara, Victoria, Florita) and three brothers (Ioan, Vasile, Simionas). Valeria got married to Vasile Ciobanca (1921-1995) in 1945 and they had four children: Maria (married name: Mirghesiu; born July 1st, 1946), Elena (married name: Opris; b. November 15th, 1948), Ioan (b. October 16th, 1950), and Petru (b. June 28th, 1954). Valeria Ciobanca fell paralyzed on November 19, 1998 and her left foot was amputated above the knee in November 2007. She died in the courtyard of the Zalau hospital on the ambulance in the way to her home, at 10:30 PM, on April 22nd, 2015. Greek Catholic Funeral Service at her home on Saturday, April 25th, 2015, at 1.00 PM with funeral afterwards to Bocsa Cemetery. She was buried above her husband.
