Valia was the beloved Wife of Anastasios Vassilas, Son of Eugenios Anastasios Vassilas and Eleni Skagias. She and Anastasios (aka as "Tassos") were married on January 16, 1977 and remained married, until Valia died, for forty-five years. Valia and Tassos had two children, that is, Liana Vassilas and Alexandra Vassilas. Liana, when she became an adult, moved permenently to Mykonos, Greece and managed a motel in Mykonos which had been built on land previously acquired by Tassos and Valia. Liana married Efstathios Balatsos. The younger Daughter, Alexandra, of Valia and Tassos, stayed in America and moved to Baltimore, Maryland. In addition to her two children, Valia's obituary included that she was the Aunt of Ioannis Sarantopoulos and the Cousin of Marianna Sarantopoulos. Family and friends were received at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Bethesda, Maryland on Friday, February 10, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m., the church of which both Valia and Tassos were members. A dinner was held at Normandie Farms in Potomac, Maryland directly after the memorial service. Valia's interment, it was noted in her obituary, was in Piraeus, Greece. Upon further research of both Alexandra's and Liana's Facebook accounts, it was noted by Alexandra, that her Mother's, Valia's, funeral actually took place in Korydallos , Athens, Greece--"Our family will be traveling to Mom's home town of Athens, Greece where a funeral will be held on February 20th at Profitis Ilias in Kastella, Pireaus. Viewing from 12:00PM, service to start at 1:00PM. Burial with family at Gamma cemetery in Korydalos, Makaria for all to follow at Cheers .
