Statesman, 7th Prime Minister of Bulgaria. He served on two different occasions. The first from 28 August 1886 to July 10, 1887 and second from 17 July 1913 to 21 June 1918. He was Premier of the country throughout most of World War I. Prior to becoming prime minister he earned a degree in law at Heidelberg in Germany in 1882. He served as Minister of Justice from 11 July 1884 to 24 July 1886. He served in that post again in 1894 and in 1899 he was appointed Minister for Internal Affairs. As prime minister, he is best remembered for his unrelenting efforts to aid the central powers, especially Germany, with World War I. He was dismissed by the king for his failures in the war and fled to Germany in exile. He was sentenced to death but was pardoned in 1929 while still in exile.
