[Source Croatian Wikipedia] Vladimir Hudolin was a Croatian psychiatrist, and head of the Clinic for Neurology, Psychiatry, Alcoholism and Other Addictions at the Clinical Hospital "Mladen Stojanović" (today "Klinički bolnički centar Sestre milosrdnice") in Zagreb. In 1964, he founded the first club of treated alcoholics in Croatia - first in the hospital, as an experimental club, and then the Maksimir Club of treated alcoholics, which was the beginning of the establishment of clubs of treated alcoholics in Zagreb, and then throughout Croatia. At the same time, the Alliance for Combating Alcoholism was founded, which acted more preventively and eventually grew into the Alliance for the Protection of Mental Health, Suppression of Alcoholism and Other Addictions, encompassing the preventive, therapeutic, and above all rehabilitation component of alcohol problems. Prof. dr. Hudolin was the organizer and co-organizer of a large number of national and international congresses, symposia and professional meetings. In the last ten years, from his retirement in 1987 until his untimely death on December 26, 1996, Hudolin was active mostly in Italy, organizationally and educationally, and under his leadership and according to his method, two and a half thousand "sunny" and community-oriented clubs were founded treated alcoholics. Clubs have spread from Italy to other countries in Europe and the world. For his work in the field of psychiatry, and especially alcoholism, he received a number of national and international awards, among them the 1982 AWARD Association for medical education and research in substance abuse for contributions to the field on alcoholism in medical education and research, Barkley USA; First international AWARD August Forel, Zurich, 1986, honorary citizen of the city of San Daniele del Friuli, Italy, 1983. He was buried on December 30, 1996 at the Remete Cemetery.
