Wilfrid Reginald Dyke Acland

Wilfred Reginald Dyke Acland was born on 26 June 1894. He was the son of Sir Reginald Brodie Dyke Acland and Helen Emma Fox. He served in the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS), transferring to the Royal Air Force (RAF) upon its creation in 1918. He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches twice. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (D.F.C.) and the Air Force Cross (A.F.C.). He reached the rank of Wing Commander in the Royal Air Force. He married Mary Strange Marshall, daughter of Thomas Marshall, on 4 August 1921. He died on 1 October 1937, at age 43, killed in a flying accident. (Bio by DIMITRIOS CORCODILOS)
