BARLOW William Clarke, 48621, Sapper, 100th Field Company. Royal Engineers. Son of Clarke R and Lily G. Barlow of Elder Cottage, Morton. Born Morton, enlisted Gainsborough. Died of wounds 29th October 1916, aged 21, interred KARASOULI MILITARY CEMETERY, Greece, commemorated Addition to Grave Marker (Morton St Pauls) / Gainsborough St. John Ambulance. [W.E and Lance Corporal on memorial]. Member of St. John's Ambulance Corps, Choral Society, Church Choir, C.E.M.S., teacher at Gainsborough Poor Sunday School. Played in pantomime Dick Whittington. Had been a Boy Scout. Died in hospital from wounds received the night before when he was taking part on a raid on enemy trenches. Hit in the stomach by a bullet. Photo in GN 24.11.16 GN 17.11.16 OBITS 26.10.17 + 10.11.16 + 26.10.17 GN 29.6.17 says tombstone in Morton to L/Cpl. Barlow. This tombstone is in Morton churchyard (near rear gateway, close to road, not standing) IN LOVING MEMORY OF OUR DEAR AND ONLY SON, L'CPL. WILLIAM C BARLOW R.E., WHO DIED OF WOUNDS ON OCTOBER 28TH 1916 IN HIS 22ND YEAR, INTERRED AT THE KARASULI MILITARY CEMETERY GREECE, THE STRIFE IS O'ER THE BATTLE DONE, NOW IS THE VICTOR'S TRIUMPH WON.
