Service Number 7/15470 William Henry Wheeler was born in Madeley, Herefordshire, to Margaret and William Thomas Wheeler, miller. His birth is registered in 4th Quarter 1887. In 1891, William H was 3 and lived with his parents in Cage Brook Mill in South Herefordshire. He had an older brother Charles T and younger brother James S. In 1901, William H was 13 and lived with his parents in Bage Mill in Madley, St Mary Parish. He had 3 more younger siblings, George R, Edward D, and Sarah M A. Private William Henry Wheeler served with the 7th Battalion of the South Wales Borderers in the Balkan Theatre. 14 Sep 1914 - 7th Battalion, South Wales Borderers, was raised at Brecon as part of Kitchener's 3rd New Army; joined 67th Brigade, 22nd Division. Trained at Seaford, spent winter in billets at St Leonards. Apr 1915 - Returned to Seaford. May 1915 - Moved to Aldershot for final training. Proceeded to France. 6 Sep 1915 - landed at Boulogne; Division concentrated near Flesselles. Oct 1915 - Moved by train to Marseilles; on 27 Oct 1915 - Embarked for Salonika. 2nd week Dec 1915 - Retreat from Serbia. 1916 - Fought in Battles of Horseshoe Hill and Machukovo. 1917 - Fought in Battles of Doiran.
