28th (Mâori) Battalion of the 2nd New Zealand Division, the fighting arm of the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force (2NZEF) during the Second World War (1939-45). Serial No: 26026. Son of Mr Iwi and Emma (nee Haronga) Ruru of Te Karaka, Gisborne, New Zealand. Died in Crete at age 28
