Service Number: 25976 Unit: New Zealand Infantry, 28 (Maori) Battalion Next of Kin: Mr P. Parete (father), Omeka Pa, Te Poi, New Zealand Enlistment Address: Whakatane, New Zealand Occupation on Enlistment: Labourer Enlisted in Whakatane in 1940.. Son of Puke Parete and Ngaurupa, of Matamata-Piako District, Waikato, NZ Wiremu belonged to Omeka Pa at Te Poi. His parents were from Tanui iwi. He had at least three more brothers, Joseph Edward, John and Micky. John also served with 28 Maori Battalion. Wiremu's name was entered on a 1999 Whakatane RSA Anzac Day Programme. He is remembered on the Hall Of Memories at Auckland War Memorial Museum. His name is on the 1939-1945 Roll Of Honour at the Te Poi War Memorial Hall.
