Yanku Lupovitz

In memoriam

Yanku was born on January 9, 1925 in Iasi, Romania, to Yitzkhak and Golda Lupovitz. He was sixteen years old when he became one of the victims of the Iasi Pogrom of June 29, 1941. Between June 28 - July 7, 1941, an estimated 13,266 Jewish men, women and children were rounded up and brutally murdered by Iasi police and non-Jewish civilians. Most victims were shot, but some were killed on a "death train" that traveled around the countryside for eight days straight, with the passengers receiving no food or water. A memorial honoring the pogrom victims is erected in the Iasi Jewish Cemetery.
