In memoriam

Zamo Dučić was born on February 8, 1967. year in Plav. He died in the battles against the aggressors on September 24, 1994. in Jasen - Vareš, on duty as the commander of the Maneuver Battalion in the 101st Motorized Brigade. In 1995, he was posthumously awarded the highest war award, the "Golden Lily". At the beginning of the aggression against the city of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, he lived on Šanac, on Hrasno brdo, where he and his fellow citizens, neighbors, friends and wife organized defense in this part of the city, resisting the Serbian-Montenegrin aggressors who were attacking from the direction of the MUP school in Vrace and the notorious Ozrenska Street. He has been awarded many times by the Commander of the 1st Corps and the Brigade Commander, and on the occasion of naming the Ramiz Salčin barracks, he reports to the Supreme Commander, President of the RBiH Presidency, Alija Izetbegović. He was the platoon commander, then the deputy battalion commander in Bjelava, and on July 15, 1994, he became the commander of the maneuver battalion of the 101st Motorized Brigade. Modest and disciplined, Zamo knew how to motivate and lead the fighters, saying: Follow me, falcons! And the fighters followed him with a song even in the most difficult battles. The war road was sacred for him, from Sarajevo, Igman, Zvijezda, Cemerska Planina, to the Black River Plateau - Vijenc, Polom and Jasen. 06.04.1992. in the first battle in the defense of the MUP school in Vrace, his leadership skills and his determination simply carried the fighters. He was always there where it was most difficult: to lead, to encourage, to show how it should be with the Chetniks. His comrades speak with respect and pride about Zamo, who had a series of hand-to-hand clashes with the Chetniks. In the midst of the battle to stop the Chetniks from Vrac on June 8, 1992, as the commander of the assault group, Zamo broke out on Ozrenska Street, leaving behind a number of destroyed nests of aggressors. In October 1992, during the famous battle on Šanac and near 11 Blues, when one of the enemy's armored vehicles was destroyed, he was so brave and determined that he simply grabbed the necks of Niš special forces dressed in bulletproof vests. In December 1992, Zamo, as the commander of the assault group, had the task of mastering Demino Brdo. On that occasion, he is silently drawn to the Chetnik bunker and throws a hand grenade through the loophole. In December 1993, he led a division of fighters that liquidated several enemy soldiers in a diversionary operation on Hrasno Brdo. At Čolina kapa, Chetnik snipers once nailed the late General Mustafa Hajrulahović Talijan with whom Zamo was very close. Zamo organized a rescue operation and succeeded without loss. He was so fearless that he literally pulled out his wounded comrades in front of the Chetniks' eyes in a few strokes, saying that his fighter was more than his life. His first task as the commander of the Maneuver Battalion was to stop the Chetnik attacks on Vijenac, which were becoming more fierce day by day. On this task, Zamo justified the trust placed in him by the command. After a short lull on Čemerska mountain, our line of defense on Jasen is threatened. Zamo gives the command for a violent counterattack, during the fight he encourages his fighters with words and deeds: You are charging my falcons! In less than five hours of bitter fighting, the defense line was stabilized and entrenched. However, the Chetniks do not stop their artillery fire at the positions of our unit. At one point, they break through the defense line of the neighboring unit, behind the backs of Zama's fighters. The decision was made: to attack, hand to hand, so that everyone could get out on the flanks of the front. Commander Zamo knew that he would not survive, but he was determined to give his fighters a retreat. A decisive battle was fought. Between the shooting and the detonations, the Takbir "Allahu Akbar" echoed from the fighters of our Army. On Jasen, on Čemerska mountain, Zamo stayed to defend with body and heart those he loved the most. He fought to the last bullet. According to the testimony of one fighter who was with the late Zamo, almost until the last moment, and who survived that hell, it was like this: The last thing he saw was Zamo entering the Chetnik trench. He was out of ammunition. He went forward with a revolver and bombs. He returned the rest of the equipment, the machine gun and command bag, Motorola back to a fighter. Upon entering the trench, a strong detonation resounded. That fighter fainted from that detonation. Several Chetniks were killed. When we identified the corpse we saw that his right arm was blown off up to the elbow and part of his head was blown off. While he was alive, he said that he would never allow his life to fall into the hands of the Chetniks. All indications are that he activated the bomb in the middle of the Chetniks. When the battle died down, his wounded fighters asked themselves: what about Zamo? Zamo could not be said to be dead, because martyrs never die. Zamo Dučić was buried in the harem of Ali Pasha's mosque in Sarajevo, where many great Bosniak men are buried.
