Countess Claudine Rhédey de Kis-Rhéde was the daughter of Count László Rhédey de Kis-Rhéde and his wife, Baroness Ágnes Inczédy de Nagy-Várad, and a direct descendant of Ferenc Rhédey, the Hungarian Prince of Transylvania between 1657 and 1658. She was married in 1835 to Duke Alexander of Württemberg, a nephew of Frederick I, King of Württemberg, and of Maria Feodorovna, Empress Consort of Russia. Since the Countess did not belong to a ruling family, the marriage was morganatic. She was created Countess von Hohenstein on May 16, 1835, shortly after her marriage. The Countess was the paternal grandmother of Princess Mary of Teck, the Queen Consort of King George V of the United Kingdom. The remains of the Countess were originally interred in the Rhédey Mausoleum, but were subsequently removed and placed in the family crypt in the Reformed Church of Sângeorgiu de Pădure.
