Count Sámuel Teleki de Szék II. was born in Gernyeszeg, Torda cttus, Transylvania, Kingdom of Hungary (now: Gornesti, Mures, Romania) on November 17, 1739 as the son of count Sándor Teleki de Szék I. and Zsuzsanna Petki Nagy. The young count, during a four year study journey has learnt German and French. He studied in several famous Western European universities such as: Basel, Utrecht, Paris. Upon his returning to Transylvania, he followed a great political carrier, culminating in his appointment as Chancellor of Transylvania. He married countess Zsuzsanna Bethlen de Iktár. They had nine children together, but unfortunately only three achieved maturity. Count Sámuel Teleki de Szék II. is probably best known for his founding the greatest public library in Transylvania of his time with over 36000 publications in 1816, the Bibliotheca Telekiana in Marosvásárhely, Marosszék, Transylvania, Kingdom of Hungary (today: Tirgu Mures, Mures, Romania).
