In Loving Memory Of ELIZABETH TWEEDIE Wife of Thomas Maxwell, Who Died At Langholm, 8th Feb. 1924, Aged 57 Years. Also The Above THOMAS MAXWELL Who Died 7th Sept 1937 Aged 83 Years Interred at Canonbie Churchyard Also Of His Sons PTE MATTHEW MAXWELL, Killed In France, 9th April 1917 Aged 21 Years Interred At British Cemetery, Arras PTE WILLIAM MAXWELL, Killed At The Dardenelles, 5th June 1915 Aged 27 Years. Interred At Lemnos Also THOMAS MAXWELL, Son Of The Above Who Died 30th July 1973, Aged 78 Years. Also Their Son ROBERT MAXWELL, Died 16th May 1984, Aged 79 Years.

Age: 28years old. Son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Tweedie) Maxwell of address: Langholm, (Crown Cottage & 6 George St), Dumfriesshire, Scotland. Rank: Private * Enlistment Place: Annan, Dumfries Rank: Private * Death Date: 5 Jun 1915 Death Place: Dardanelles Type of Casualty: Died of wounds Theatre of War: Balkan Theatre 1911: William was serving with the 1st KOSB in India. August 1914: The Battalion was in Lucknow, India. They returned to the UK via Egypt and then sailed for Gallipoli, landing at Cape Helles in April 1915. William died of wounds on board the Hospital Ship "Ascania". Soldiers Died in the Great War 1914-1919 Died of Wounds on 5 June 1915 and buried in East Mudros Military Cemetery, Lemnos, Greece. My father was named after Willie and I was named after John.
